News - Recent MKPS Activities
- December 2009 - Our tree-planting project has finally started on Tuesday, 22nd of December. Every day we are planting 100 trees until we will have planted all of the 2000 trees. The picture shows the activity on the first day at Moshi Pasua Area. Amongst some of the porters, Mr. Yassin, the secretary general of MKPS and Mrs. Zainab Ansell, founder of the ZARA Foundation.

- November 2009 - Mount Kilimanjaro Porters Society under sponsership of Zara Tours have bought 50 bicycles for Kilimanjaro porters to improve the porter's mobility. Zara Tours has donated 60% of the purchasing cost and also agreed to donate more during our next months for buying bicycle for more members

- November 2009 - We have got a land from Moshi municipal for planting trees and Zara Tours has bought 2000 new trees which we will plant from December 1st as we are waiting for Moshi Municipal Director to launch the project
- October 2009 - The 24th of October 2009 was the International Day of Climate Action. Some members of MKPS climbed the mountain on that day taking pictures with a "350" banner to raise awareness about the problem of the melting snows at Kilimanjaro. 350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide—measured in "Parts Per Million" in our atmosphere. 350 PPM—it's the number humanity needs to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change. - October 2009 - During the low season this years, ZARA Tours is sponsoring a training program for 30 MKPS cooking trainees taking place at Springlands Hotel for a duration 3 months.
- May 2009 - 5500 members of our socciety have received first aid training, HIV and AIDS lessons, money management and now they are ready to give back what they have learn to the society
